Chief Development Officer

Code.org is looking for a Chief Development Officer to lead fundraising strategy and operations for Code.org. As CDO, you will work with the leadership team, Board of Directors, and staff to define the organization’s philanthropic vision and direction. In this new role you will lead a small and dedicated team of fundraisers to create, implement, and manage strategies for sustainable growth.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Strategy
As CDO, you will plan and implement strategies to secure donors and contributions in support of Code.org, drive the fund development program, monitor development activities, and address issues that may hamper our growth and success.
Fundraising
  • Actively engage with individuals, corporations, foundations, and our Board; create and manage long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships
  • Develop and write inquiries, grant proposals and reports to foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing to manage donor communications
Financial planning and budgeting
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance on budgeting and cash flow planning
Team management
  • Oversee the Fundraising team in all operations from managing donor relationships and  prospect research, to maintaining our CRM database, grant files, fundraising materials, events and donor communications

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a strategic thinker who is analytical, results driven, and highly organized. You should have a talent for building relationships and a proven track record in securing funds; 6+ years of relevant experience is required.

To be successful in this role, you should also have:

  • An incredible passion for our mission and an ability to inspire others to get involved
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be persuasive in both written and verbal communications, including public speaking and the ability to communicate the vision, goals and impact of Code.org
  • Strong networking, presentation, and relationship building expertise
  • A track record of securing six figure or larger gifts from corporate and foundation funders, including multi-year commitments
  • Demonstrated ability to develop funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner and have proven success in writing large foundation and/or corporate grants
  • The ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in sensitive, complex and/or controversial situations
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team environment and also work independently
  • Strong and thoughtful customer service orientation
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or other CRM systems or donation-management tools
  • Ability to travel up to 30% time (based on location) and flexibility to work nontraditional hours when needed
