lowRISC is a non-profit Community Interest Company that uses a collaborative engineering approach to develop and maintain open source silicon designs and supporting software. We produce high-quality, security-focused, open, flexible IP via projects like the OpenTitan silicon root of trust. Our expertise includes processor and SoC design with a particular focus on hardware security, design verification, RISC-V tools, and the LLVM compiler. Our mission is to unlock the potential of open source silicon and enable its widespread adoption, with more credible, accessible and efficient silicon solutions than exist today.
This role gives a chance to apply industrial-strength design verification to clean, open-source code bases. But we want to do better than the industry standard: the ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in digital design verification, but will also come with ideas and enthusiasm for innovation and change
The role will focus on test and verification of the range of high quality open source IP we are producing in the context of high profile projects such as OpenTitan. lowRISC is an ambitious not-for-profit company with a small core team, so you will be heavily involved in the development direction of the organisation and its projects. This role will involve frequent work with external contributors and collaborators, including design verification teams at partner companies and our own growing digital design team.
Practical experience of design verification using UVM and SystemVerilog is essential.
Candidates should also have experience or demonstrated interest in some of:
large-scale open source development
formal verification techniques
Industrial experience and higher degree levels are valued, but we will also consider candidates without higher degrees but with a strong undergraduate academic record or equivalent experience. A good standard of written and spoken English is essential.
You must have the right to work in the UK. Benefits include a generous employer pension contribution (up to 12.5%) and holiday allowance (33 days including public holidays). You will join us at our offices in central Cambridge, but we would consider applicants working partially or completely remotely.
Working at lowRISC
lowRISC’s team is based in Cambridge, UK, amongst the Silicon Fen’s ecosystem of high tech startups. We maintain close links to researchers in Computer Architecture at the University of Cambridge amongst other research communities. We work closely with engineers at partner organizations and open source communities around the world daily to create hardware designs and novel methodologies for robust open silicon development. We don’t just focus on the immediate, but support a significant long term silicon program with at-scale tapeouts planned in collaboration with major industry partners.
We are an inherently collaborative organization of dedicated, innovative and talented professionals who sit at the heart of the open silicon revolution. This is an opportune time to join a growing organization situated at the crest of the coming wave of open hardware innovation. We are building a high quality, shared and open infrastructure necessary to support impactful future computing systems. Through projects like OpenTitan we partner with organisations such as ETH Zürich, G+D Mobile Security, Google, Nuvoton, and Western Digital.
We do not discriminate against any employee or candidate because of race, colour, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.
