About Good Call
Good Call is a tech nonprofit organization which exists to protect the rights of marginalized communities facing excessive and unnecessary arrests and unfair treatment by the criminal justice system. Along with educating communities and advocating for arrest reforms, Good Call uses technology and community engagement to provide free legal support in case of an arrest through a 24/7 hotline.
Good Call is looking for a software engineer volunteer to help them set up an online resource center to provide legal information and referrals to the communities they serve.
Good Call is looking for a volunteer front-end developer to build an online resource center similar to https://www.justfix.nyc/learn/ and https://upsolve.org/learn/, using Gatsby, Contentful, and Algolia. They want someone who can create web pages that consider page speed, structured data (JSON+LD), internal linking that prioritizes content aiming at the highest volume keyword searches, and who has an understanding of pillar pages, content grouping, and semantic HTML. The volunteer will need to figure out a sensible way to integrate this with their existing website (https://github.com/good-call-nyc/landing-page), and deployment process (https://github.com/good-call-nyc/landing-page/blob/master/package.json#L17). Finally, the volunteer will need to develop and implement a strategy for tracking views and engagement with their online resources.
