ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an exceptional, experienced, and highly dedicated HR & Payroll Generalist. The HR/Payroll Generalist will play an integral role in our continued growth and success. Under the supervision of the Director of HR & Compliance, the Human Resources and Payroll Generalist is responsible for a variety of HR/Payroll daily operations including payroll processing, HRIS management, assisting with benefits administration, as well as HR reporting and special projects. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who is passionate about human resources and has the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, while also prioritizing a diverse workload. This position will be based in the Washington D.C. office location.
Initiate (prepare the pre-process register) and process semi-monthly payroll.
In conjunction with the HR Coordinator, maintain a payroll tracker that updates each pay period employee deductions, deferrals, and withholdings for all employees.
Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, and taxes.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions, in addition to approving employee changes.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws, taxes, and best practices.
Manage year-end employee W-2 and employer ACA reporting in conjunction with Finance.
Review timesheets for accuracy and completion, including following up with employees.
Complete quarterly disability benefits/Paid Family Leave premium reports, review benefit vendor statements for accuracy, complete and process new tax code requests in conjunction with Finance.
Perform benefits administration to include change reporting and reviewing invoices for payment.
Assist with employee onboarding, processing of new hires and terminations, employee salary & status changes, and other updates in the payroll system, benefits management system, and other relevant systems.
Answer questions from staff and managers by providing information, interpretation of policies, and advice about the workplace.
Reinforce company culture and values and works to support a positive work environment and morale among staff.
Enforce company policies and works to reduce company threats and liabilities.
Act as back up for administering leaves of absence (FMLA, parental, LTD/STD, workers comp, etc.).
Act as backup to conduct exit interviews.
Assist in developing departmental goals, objectives, and budget.
Keep up to date with the latest HR trends and best practices.
Maintain confidentiality and security of all employee and proprietary company information.
Participate in special projects and initiatives and provide general support to the Director of HR & Compliance as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of four (4) years proven experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience as an HR Generalist and payroll representative sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Understanding of Federal, State, and District employment laws, taxes, and regulations.
PHR or SHRM-CP certification desired but not required
Payroll certification desired but not required
Extensive knowledge of payroll processing including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
Proficient with payroll software and HRIS
Skilled in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint & Word) and Google Docs
A high degree of discretion, professional ethics, and judgment in confidential matters and information
Ability to communicate the COC culture and support an engaged work environment
Strong attention to detail, excellent communication, excellent customer service
Ability to analyze problems, gather pertinent data and recommend solutions.
Ability to maintain composure and good judgment when dealing with deadlines, dissatisfied employees, or a fast-paced environment.
Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities as needed.
Desire to work as a team with a results-driven approach
Some travel may be required (typically less than 10% of the year).
