Medic Mobile is part of a global movement for health equity and national health system reforms, and our partnerships and communications efforts are critical to this work. We are looking for a Communications Officer to join our Partnerships Team and support external communications in service of our ambitious goals. This is a great opportunity to work remotely and fight Covid-19 with compelling communications!

The ideal candidate will be organized, enthusiastic, and creative team-player with strong communication and storytelling skills. The Communications Officer will report to the Director of Partnerships.

Position Information:
  • Employment Status: Full-time
  • Location: Remote. Preferred time zones include Eastern Standard Time, Greenwich Mean Time, Eastern Africa Time, or Indian Standard Time, but open to other options.
  • Preferred Start Date: May 2020
Core Responsibilities:
External Communications
  • Contribute to and implement Medic Mobile’s communications strategy to effectively engage new and existing target audiences to achieve organizational goals and impact
  • Develop and implement a powerful social media plan and calendar across multiple brand outposts (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, blog and other developing social media channels) and own content creation for these outposts
  • Create appropriate, highly-visual and impactful content and collateral for external audiences in line with Medic’s brand and voice. These may include website content, blog posts, quarterly and annual reports, newsletters, one-pagers and other materials to communicate Medic’s activities, products and services with input from relevant teams
  • Coordinate with Partnerships teammates to ensure content and collateral is available in regional languages for targeted audiences
  • Support functional teams in creating need-based collateral including decks and one-pagers
  • Work closely with the CHT Community of Practice Manager to ensure consistent messaging, branding and voice across all platforms
  • Support organization-wide brand management efforts, including standardized branding assets and collateral
  • Ensure brand compliance and enhancement in all external communications efforts
  • Use and collate analytics to evaluate impact and effectiveness of social media activity in terms of engagement and reach
  • Respond to media inquiries or requests for organizational information
  • Continually survey the social media landscape to identify new platforms and opportunities to grow our reach and impact
Partnerships 
  • Steward first line partnership inquiries and discussions as appropriate
  • Attend events, conferences, webinars and workshops to build new relationships with partners and others and help grow our community
  • Subscribe to relevant newsletters and listservs, stay informed on developments in community and digital health and share relevant updates with the team
  • Support the partnerships team in planning and hosting in-person CHT community events
Qualifications
Ideal applicants will have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree, required
  • 2-4 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations or related domains, preferably in a global health context
  • Exceptionally clear, compelling and precise writing skills
  • Demonstrated ability to create impactful, high-quality content
  • English language proficiency required, additional proficiency in French preferred
  • Exceptional organizational skills, highly detail-oriented and deadline-driven
  • An interest in serving marginalized communities, and a commitment to delivering health care to those that are hardest to reach
  • Demonstrated ability to work well remotely, under pressure and with limited supervision but with high accuracy, purpose and impact
  • An ability to gracefully balance multiple competing priorities and adapt to changing needs
  • The ability and openness to travel up to 20% time, with simple accommodations, to Medic Mobile’s regional offices in Nairobi, Dakar, Kampala, and Kathmandu (and in some cases, to partner sites across Africa and Asia)
  • A flexible working schedule to enable internal coordination and external communication across multiple time zones, which might include early morning or late evening hours
  • Humility, tenacity, inclusivity, empathy and team spirit
  • Proficiency in publishing and advertising software such as Mailchimp, Hootsuite and Google Adwords
  • Familiarity with community health, digital health, ICT4D is a plus
  • Visual design skills are a plus
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and Asana is a plus
