The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Core Platform Team and help us empower our communities to achieve our vision: A world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. We are looking for someone who will become a trusted partner and a key member of our team, as well as someone who is passionate about making operational excellence a prominent part of our daily work.

The Core Platform Team is responsible for the development of MediaWiki and Wikimedia specific services that allow our software to scale to serve millions of users. As a Project Manager on our team, you will support your teammates by facilitating team processes, building and projecting schedules, and managing contractors. You will be responsible for ensuring smooth team operations and helping our team become more effective in delivering value to our communities, staff, and end-users. You will work directly with the management of the Core Platform Team and report to the Vice President of Platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the delivery of multiple projects including facilitation of shared understanding of timelines across multiple customer teams
  • Facilitate and establish clear communication and information flows across teams
  • Develop and support healthy team dynamics as well as a culture that welcomes diverse perspectives
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and process improvement
  • Partner with Product Owners while also supporting the expert judgment of the team
  • Schedule and facilitate project planning, standups, retrospectives, and backlog grooming
  • Document team processes, decisions, and plans
  • Track status of projects and provide weekly/daily status updates to stakeholders and management
  • Uphold a culture of accountability and motivate teams to follow through on commitments to deliver outputs and enable outcomes
  • Coordinate venue, location, and activity planning for group and team events

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent in related work experience
  • Experience working in an organization that has a distributed workforce
  • 3+ years experience managing the release of developer and/or customer-facing software from concept to production
  • Experience building scalable workflows to keep cross-team projects on budget and on time, supporting project leaders to ensure work is in scope and remains aligned to strategic goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and
  • Strong facilitation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Solid command of Agile approaches to software development and project management,  including identifying stakeholders, defining requirements, crafting schedules, ensuring testing, and facilitating implementation
  • Strong prioritization, organization, planning and time management skills
  • Passion for process improvement with superb attention to detail
  • Ability to build relationships and trust, and persuade team members and stakeholders to negotiate mutually agreeable solutions and then motivate the team toward that shared goal
  • Ability to anticipate risks, identify blockers, resolve conflicts, and initiate escalation paths
