An estimated 4.5 million first-generation college students are enrolled in postsecondary institutions today. But 9 out of 10 will not earn a bachelor’s degree by age 24. Their drop-out rate is four times the rate of their peers whose parents received a postsecondary education. We know that first-generation college students are qualified and motivated for college, but too often lack access to good information and support to successfully navigate the college process and, more importantly, access the colleges that are most committed to their success. That is where Center for Student Opportunity comes in! Since 2005, we have developed tools and administered programs that bridge the divide between four-year colleges and universities and first-gen students who most need college.
