Quad9 was founded to provide basic cybersecurity protection at no cost to as wide an audience as possible. Using the DNS, Quad9 blocks connections to malicious domains and prevents losses for those who are most vulnerable. Quad9 collects no user data (not even a signup) so there is no data harvesting possible. The service uses encryption where possible to protect against interception or observation of browsing activity. There is no software to download or install for users on non-mobile devices; it is simply a configuration change. Android users have multiple freely-available applications to choose from, or can use the Quad9-provided application. Quad9 has service in 89 nations and 149 locations worldwide, keeping data inside national boundaries where possible.

Funders and Awards

Global Cyber Alliance non-profit (https://www.globalcyberalliance.org) provided seed funding but is no longer a donor after a planned "fledgling" process, IBM is a current corporate sponsor (https://www.ibm.com) but we are only now starting to try to find non-corporate sponsorship.
