Sexual violence impacts at least one third of women globally, and disproportionately harms those who experience intersectional vulnerability, such as migrants. Language barriers, as well as lack of familiar resources and services, make it especially difficult for survivors in foreign countries. Where apps exist, they are often monolingual, non-intuitive, limited in their scope and not trauma-sensitive. Backyard Dreams building a cross-platform mobile app called Athena, which provides survivors of sexual violence with localized tools for recovery and recourse.
